A Busy Weekend Times Two

Sharon is having two busy weekends in a row.  Last weekend was Kaitlyn’s baby shower in Syracuse. It was a lovely unseasonably warm day and friends and family came from far and wide. It was a lovely gathering and I have a few photos to share. Jessica flew up from Alabama and shared many of these.

Meet Manuel Leo Mariano or ‘Manny’. These 3D sonograms are amazing. Mark’s sister’s and neice drove down from Vermont. From left to right, Sharon, Mark, Jessica, Jamie(I think), Dave, Kait and her aunts Sandy and Judy.

These adorable cookies were handed out as favors.

Dave, Mark, Kaitlyn and Sharon.

The Klima girls. It was so good to see Jess.

On to Wednesday’s FB video. Sharon wanted to do some inking. Throw in dies from MFT, Foil plates from Spellbinders, inks a, sprays and a stencil. Sharon started out with three shades of blue oxide Prize Ribbon, Faded Jeans and Chipped Sapphire. Using a blending tool, Sharon likes regular distressed inks but used oxides as they blend so much easier. A few points to mention, do not use the same foam or brushes for both regular distressed and oxides. Keep them separate. While the colors are the same you will see differences in the two inks by the same name. Distressed are a bit brighter, oxides are creamier and have a chalky finish to them. Oxides are easier to blend with other colors. For Sharon's first two cards she started with her lightest color at the bottom and got darker as she moved up. She will use this one sheet below for both of her first two cards.

Next Sharon used her favorite white ink, Hero Arts Unicorn White to add rays to one side of her paper. Using the tool in a dabbing motion with more color at the base, she added white highlights using a stencil.

Oxides are also water reactive. So Sharon gave the left side a slight spritz.

Sharon also added shimmer mist to her card on both sides.

Another option is to use these butters.

This is Sharon's earlier finished background, NICE!

Sharon will finish her card and post later but this is her initial idea. The Peace and the dove are MFT dies.

For the second card Sharon used the other side of her shaded paper and added her favorite butter, Polar
White (I'm sure about the Polar, not sure about the white...) using another stencil. She also added more color to the edges as she initially planned that she would use all of this piece as her background. BUT, plans change.

Using the Spellbinder's Ornament Foiling Plate, Sharon made this cover piece. It was hard to see the foiling but I don't doubt it's there.

The foil comes from this 16 pack! of GoPress Foil. When Sharon's stock of this collection if gone, it's gone so get it while you can.

Sharon had to cut down the background piece so that she had full coverage inside the circle of her ornament. She also used thin foam squares between the inked background and the foiled piece.

When attaching the foil piece with the inked piece too a blue background piece Sharon doubled the foam so it accounted for the raised center piece.

Sharon added her dove to the center.

Sharon then used the word foil set to do a sentiment in red.

For the third card Sharon used kraft paper and a bronze foil to create the ornament background. Using a set of stacked circle dies Sharon found two that create the white and the solid kraft circles inside the ornament. She finished with leaf sprigs from MFT and the dove.

The cards need something else. For Sharon that's ribbon. Her first try is this classic ribbon she found at home, However, the leaf color doesn't work so Sharon will be cutting more olive looking leaves later to finish the card.

The negative of this ornament die can also be used to make a card.

Inking ribbon - sometimes you don't have just the right color of ribbon. Sharon used our seam binding to illustrate how you can use distressed or oxide to add or change your color. Here she  used Faded Jeans in distress and oxide to color a white and a light blue ribbon. Smear some ink on an ink friendly surface that will not absorb the ink, Sharon used a plastic board, spritz with water and then just add your ribbon and smoosh all around.

On the left is the white ribbon with distressed ink. It's brighter and more shimmery than the blue ribbon done with oxide ink on the right.

The distressed ribbon goes great on Sharon's first card.

Sharon used the BowMaker to make both bows used. Way too complicated to try and illustrate and explain. I'll direct you to the YouTube channel for the replay!

These were the dies used in the first card and the foil plates used from Spellbinders.

It was an inky night!

This weekend is another big one as it’s Stamp Camp! Mona will be doing a video on Friday and Sharon may pop in with a few new arrivals. You may also get a look-see during Stamp Camp. I'm away this weekend and I’m not sure how good our internet reception is. If I can I’ll post again on Saturday or Sunday. I’ll be card-making and crafting all weekend with old friends and adult beverages, ah joy!

My funny for today, Kim mentioned how many shopping opportunities we have til Christmas. This may help all those couples out there…

Have a great weekend all and above all Stay Safe everyone.
