Wednesday Night Lights

Welcome to Wednesday on Thursday. I missed Sharon’s video on Wednesday night and just had a chance to check it out tonight. This weeks video was more an instructional video than a product one although she used new product coming to the store soon. I do have a few new products for you first and a word about the Stamp, Scrap, Art Tour coming back to the fairgrounds in August. We have new Waffle Flower for Christmas and a few new background dies. We’re starting with pre printed gold and silver holiday sentiments although I think they are from Pretty Pink Posh. Take a look.

The Stamp Scrap Art Tour is coming back to the Hamburg Fairgrounds. We are selling advanced tickets for the event. Buffalo Stamps and Stuff will NOT be exhibiting. Although, if I know Sharon, the store will be open and we will probably have several store specials during the weekend. I will publish the cost of the tickets as soon as I get it from Sharon.

Next up is the main part of Sharon’s video, embossing powders. Sharon will show different powders with  texture, color and a way to use your powders to make a variety of backgrounds and add-ons.  Sharon starts with her favorite embossing pad, WOW. This pad also has a roll-on re-inker for easy application. Sharon’s favorite powders are Hero Arts and WOW. Hero for their white, clear, fine detail and more. WOW for the variety of colors. Sharon estimated we have 50 different colors. The Obsidian, Seafoam and the other turquoise colored powders she uses below are on order.

Sharon started by taking a ‘dry’ embossed patterned piece of paper and gently rubbing the WOW pad over  the embossed image. On one side she used a traditional fine textured blue powder on the other side she used a traditional gold powder. The gold seems to show up better.

Next Sharon experimented with taking different powders and sprinkling them, by hand, onto a piece of paper she schmeared embossing ink on. She gently lifted the papers off her work surface and heated them from the bottom. Once the powders started to 'stick' she could heat from the top. Aways make sure you do not touch the paper with the tip of your heat gun or get too close to your paper as it will burn.

Then Sharon experimented with Distress Glaze from Tim Holtz, sprinkling blue, green and yellow onto an inked paper and heating from below.

Sharon also took a die cut word, 'blessed' inked it and poured a textured embossing powder on it.

Here Sharon has taken a background die cut, inked and sprinkled it several times, creating both layers and dimension on the die cut. You can see the texture from the embossing powders.

Sharon's last technique was the most interesting. Cut two pieces of parchment paper the same size, say 5"X7". On one piece sprinkle little piles of different colors and/or textures of embossing powder.

Cover the little piles with the other piece of parchment and gently heat. Do this carefully as you do not want to burn your parchment and be aware the inks melt at different temperatures and some quicker than others.

When you are finished, gently peel away the top piece of parchment.

You can add more powder at this point if you choose and reheat.

This is one Sharon did earlier. The fun comes as you can gently pull the melted embossing mixture away from the bottom piece of parchment. The pieces can then be added to a card front, a journal, whatever you choose. Here Sharon has put it on a card front.

To further create her card she added a word negative die cut with, of course, a mat.

Sharon also used these Penny Black floral die cuts along with the Pretty Pink Posh gold and silver phrases to finish this card. She will show the final versions in one of her next videos.

That's it about it for this post. Again, check out our YouTube channel for the complete video with more tips from Sharon on embossing.

I mentioned my daughter is in Italy this week. As always, getting her to send pictures to us is like pulling teeth. So image my surprise when she sent a small video and photos from her first night in Italy. We had so much fun on our family trip a few years ago doing the same thing she wanted to do it again! They went to a local family's home and made pasta and had it for dinner! She and her friends had a really good time and we get snippets now and again of what she is doing. Mangia!

Here’s my funny for the day.

I'll be back after Saturday's video. Sharon promised new product so it should be fun. Until then have a crafty good weekend and Stay Safe!
